A stretch of road in the Palmdale area was a step closer Tuesday to being named in honor of a Los Angeles County deputy who was killed in an ambush shooting at a stoplight in the high desert community.
The county Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to rename part of Avenue Q in honor of Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer. The 30-year-old law enforcement veteran was killed Sept. 16, 2023 as he waited in his patrol SUV at a red light near the sheriff’s Palmdale station.
The city of Palmdale already voted to rename the stretch of Avenue Q between 10th Street East and 40th Street East in honor of the fourth-generation law enforcement officer. The county board’s motion directs the county to do the same for the section of Avenue Q in unincorporated territory outside the city limits, between Sierra Highway and 10th Street East.
The street will be called “Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer Avenue (Avenue Q).”
Clinkunbroomer was previously honored in January with the renaming of the Castaic Sports Complex to the Ryan M. Clinkunbroomer Castaic Sports Complex.
A 32-year-old man was convicted in August of first-degree murder for killing Clinkunbroomer, who was recently engaged to be married. Sentencing in the closely watched case is scheduled for Oct. 1.
