Welcome to the last full week of September, folks!
Believe it or not, Opening Night is just a week from tomorrow, meaning we don’t have much time left to just sit around here and stare at each other.
Soak it all in while you can.
B’s start the preseason with a win
The Bruins began preseason play last night at TD Garden, beating the Washington Capitals 3-2 in a shootout.
James Hagens scored the only goal of the shootout to give the Bruins the win after Charlie McAvoy tied the game with the goalie pulled in the last two minutes of the third period.

After the game, the B’s shared a clip on Twitter showing Hagens practicing the exact same move in practice.
See, kids? Practice DOES make perfect.
Overall, an entertaining game to kick things off, though I’m not sure you really want McAvoy skating more than 28 minutes in the first preseason game of the year.
It didn’t help that this was a penalty-laden affair, with the B’s giving Washington seven (yes, seven) power plays.
(I guess you could argue he’ll have plenty of time to rest while suspended, so maybe it’s a moot point).
Jake Schmaltz scored the other goal for the Bruins, while Michael DiPietro made 30 saves.
Anyone stand out for you last night, in a good or bad way?
The Bruins will play their second game of the preseason on Tuesday night, when they host the Philadelphia Flyers at TD Garden.
We’ll likely see the Bruins debut of JJ Peterka in that one, as he wasn’t part of last night’s squad.
In terms of housekeeping, we’ll have more standard recaps up once the regular season begins, but for preseason, these quick write-ups are probably sufficient.
