Reports surfaced late Sunday that Kewan Lacy’s status will be uncertain for the Florida game after he had an MRI after leaving the LSU game on Saturday.
Lacy appeared to have a shoulder injury about halfway through the third quarter against LSU, and while head coach Pete Golding said an x-ray was negative in postgame, ESPN reporter Pete Thamel released an MRI puts Lacy’s availability at risk in the short term.
Ole Miss is still a talented team without number five in the backfield, but its offense certainly misses his explosive big play threat and ability to grind out tough yards. The good news is there seems to be no major structural issues with his shoulder after this MRI.
I would think Lacy will be limited or maybe sit out practice altogether this week prior to a road trip to Florida. It is also a long season with a lot of games left, so it could be best to sit Lacy for this week, next week against Vanderbilt and then have a bye week to get back to 100 percent down the stretch this season.
The Rebels rushing attack is averaging 114 yards per game with Lacy responsible for 191 of the total 342 rushing yards this season. Back ups JT Lindsey and Mekhi Frazier are averaging around four yards per carry in limited action, but this could be a running back by committee situation for the next couple weeks in Oxford.
