LJ Martin and Legend Glasker showed their star power and BYU jumped out to a 38-7 lead before fluttering late in a 41-23 win at Colorado State Saturday night in Fort Collins.
BYU led 31-7 at halftime, and scored a touchdown on their first drive of the second half to go up 38-7 before pulling starters. LJ Martin showed why he is one of the best backs in the country, running for 176 yards and 3 TDs on just 15 carries. 173 of those yards came in the first half. Legend Glasker continued his blazing start to his BYU career, catching 5 passes for 131 yards and 1 rushing touchdown.
BYU outgained Colorado State 559-302 yards and ran for 332 yards. Freshman Journee Tonga spelled Martin and ran for 91 yards on 10 carries. Bear Bachmeier didn’t have to do much, going 12/16 for 227 yards; he threw an interception on is final pass of the game. Bear’s best pass came on a 70-yard bomb to Legend when he dropped it right to Legend.
As good as BYU looked the first 3 quarters, BYU’s backups gave up touchdowns and two point conversions on both of Colorado State’s fourth quarter drives. BYU went into the quarter 38-7, and the Rams played well in the fourth quarter to make the final score more respectable.
BYU moves to 3-0 on the season and has a bye next week before travelling to TCU on October 3.
