It’s the moment we have all been waiting for. The most anticipated game to take place in Oxford in the history of games being played in Oxford. Personally, I look forward to this game being over so that, no matter the result, we can move on from the primary story line driving the hysteria.
Ole Miss Athletic Director Keith Carter is anticipating a crowd over 70,000 inside Vaught Hemingway, the largest ever. The city of Oxford is preparing for 250 to 300 thousand people to be there. True mayhem awaits. Hotels are well into the thousands of dollars for a night’s stay. Parking passes have become the hottest commodity in the state. Grocery stores are being emptied.
All eyes will be on Oxford as the ex brings his new love to town trying to make everyone and himself believe he is better off than he was before. There is pressure on both sides as College Football Playoff hopes will be impacted due to the difficult remaining schedule for both squads. The Rebels could likely still get in with losses to Texas and Georgia, but a third loss puts a lot of hope in chaos and hope is not a strategy. LSU still has to play A&M, Alabama, Tennessee and Texas, all of which are currently ranked in the top 15.
This is the statement game of all statement games. On one side, LSU is looking to legitimize their contender status while their coach desperately seeks the validation of his decision. Ole Miss wants to prove they are still contenders regardless of the coach while showing their previous coach you can win here.
