Maryland football quarterback Malik Washington has received seemingly endless acclaim for his progression and achievements on the football field. However, being named to the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year watch list recognizes the sophomore phenom for more than just his excellence on the gridiron.
The award was created to honor an FBS college football player for their off-the-field character and commitment to improving their community. The namesake of the award is the current tight ends coach at Oklahoma, after an illustrious 17-year career in the NFL.
As for Washington’s charitability, the quarterback hosted the Malik Washington Free Youth Football Camp at Under Armour Stadium in July and continues to participate in other local community service projects. The list will narrow down to 20 semifinalists on Oct. 13.
