Ole Miss football enters the 2026 season with a 12 game home winning streak, which is one of the longest current active streaks in the country.
Charlotte should be victim number 13 to extend this streak as the 49ers lost last week to FCS member The Citadel in triple overtime and last season went 1-11. The last top 10 ranked team Charlotte faced was in 2025 when it lost to then No. 4 Georgia 35-3.
So history is on Ole Miss’ side going into Saturday evening in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. There is no series history between the two programs, and this season’s game is the first of a two game agreement with a season opener scheduled for Sept. 4, 2027 again in Oxford.
The 49ers are still a new program relative to the overall college football world. Their program had a brief stint in the 1940’s for a few seasons before it ceased to exist until 2013. Charlotte joined the C-USA in 2015 and has had one bowl game appearance in its short run, losing in the Bahamas Bowl in 2019 (but its the Bahamas so kind of a win-lose situaish).
Ole Miss’ home win streak faces a lot of massive hurdles this season with the likes of LSU, Missouri, Auburn, Georgia and rival Mississippi State on the schedule. While the Vaught has become a tough place to play in the last few seasons, an undefeated home slate seems very unlikely though it would cause a stratospheric jump in the program’s standing if it happened.
But it all first starts with Charlotte to keep the streak alive. Kickoff is set for 6:45 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
