In April, Megan Thee Stallion announced via her Instagram story that she and NBA star/loser Klay Thompson had broken up after about a year of dating, and at the time, she didn’t tread lightly about the reason why.
“I’ve made the decision to end my relationship with Klay. Trust, fidelity, and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there’s no real path forward,” she wrote. “Cheating, had me around your whole family playing house… got ‘cold feet.’ Holding you down through all your HORRIBLE mood swings and treatment towards me during your basketball season now you don’t know if you can be ‘monogamous’????” In the span of a night and a few Instagram story posts, Thompson went from being the luckiest man in the world to the most hated and moronic.
But four months later, Megan is opening up about how she’s feeling post-breakup in a recent cover story for InStyle, and consequently, we must stop everything we’re doing and heed her words of wisdom:
“You will not disrespect me,” she said, “And you will be thankful. Period.” And that is just the first of many pull quotes. In this entire section of the interview, she delivers a masterclass in self-affirmation, confidence, and elegance. Because that’s what she always does—duh!
“I’m trying my best,” Megan said at first when the outlet asked about the situation with Thompson. “I feel like I’ve been put through the washing machine and the dryer with tins, shovels, and a cactus…How do I want to say this gently?” she adds. Well, please don’t!
“What’s meant for you is always going to work out. And if something is constantly making you feel uncomfortable, just on edge all the time, you probably are not supposed to be there. God will always make you uncomfortable when something is not meant for you. I think I just kept trying to make pieces fit that didn’t belong, trying to fit myself into someone else’s life. I was losing myself a little bit. I am now in the space of finding me again. You will not disrespect me. And you will be thankful. Period.”I cannot be disrespected. I cannot be a person who is not gonna be me. I cannot not go to work. I’m going to be Megan Thee Stallion.”
Then, she goes for what’s left of Thompson’s jugular:
“Whoever dates me is gonna have to just understand, like, she is her own person. She’s her own boss. I cannot be minimized. I will not be behind any man. I will have a partner. I will be equals with my partner. I’m never gonna take the backseat to anything.”
