State Rep. Kevin Ryan has passed away. The New London Democratic Town Committee announced his death on Facebook.
Ryan served the 139th House District, which includes Ledyard, Montville, and Norwich, since 1992. He was also Assistant Deputy Speaker.
“Kevin’s commitment to public service will be greatly missed,” the town committee said in its post.
Gov. Ned Lamont on Monday directed that the flag of the State of Connecticut be lowered to half-staff in honor of Rep Ryan.
“Kevin Ryan was among the most dedicated and enthusiastic legislators, who was devoted to his district and serving the people of Ledyard, Montville, and Norwich,” Gov. Lamont said in a statement. “He loved public service and was always ready and willing to listen to the views of the people he represented and take action to support their interests.”
House Minority Leader Rep. Vincent Candelora said his heart goes out to Ryan’s family, friends, and fellow members of the Democratic Caucus.
“His calming temperament and sense of humor not only endeared him to his colleagues in the House, but also helped him get business done. His commitment to our state will not be forgotten. May he rest in peace,” Candelora said in a statement.
