1 dead in shooting involving police at St. Louis Lambert Airport

A man is dead after a shooting involving police inside St. Louis’ busy Lambert International Airport Friday morning, with police saying the man had a knife and advanced towards officers.

About 1:05 a.m., STL Airport police were conducting routine security checks in Terminal 1 when they saw a man with a knife, St. Louis County Police said. The man refused to drop the weapon and was tased by an officer, police said.

The man advanced towards police, and an officer fired his weapon, striking the man. He was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. No officers were physically hurt in the incident.

According to police, the officers involved in the incident were on the STL Airport Police force for six months and one year. Both had prior law enforcement experience.

Just before 4 a.m., the airport posted on X that MetroLink T1 Station at the airport was closed. The light rail system, which travels throughout the city and to and from the airport, said it was dropping off passengers at the T2 station, with shuttles operating.

About 7 a.m., the airport posted that the T1 station was open again.

The investigation remains active, police said.
