Police credit the a witness’ quick response with saving the life of a woman in her 70s who was hospitalized Tuesday after she was stabbed in downtown Los Angeles.
After a search, one man was arrested in the attack, reported shortly after 10 a.m. near Hope Street and Olympic Boulevard in front of The Met apartments. The woman was walking on the sidewalk when she was stabbed in the neck, according to police.
Police said a witness applied pressure to the stab wound before the victim was transported to a hospital. Her condition was stable Tuesday afternoon.
“Officers arrived and came across a female that was on the ground,” said LAPD Lt. James mankey. “At the time, there was a female who was a physician’s assistant applying pressure to the victim’s neck, which we believe assisted in saving the victim’s life.”
The attacker ran from the scene through an apartment complex. The man was taken into custody some time before 3 p.m.
Details about a motive for the attack were not immediately available.
“We don’t believe there was any motive,” Mankey said. “From watching the cameras, there doesn’t appear to be any communication between the two.”
