A construction worker is fighting for his life after he became trapped in an underground tunnel that flooded in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities said.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said the water main ruptured at around 10:22 p.m. Monday in the area of Southwest 120th Avenue and Southwest 220th Street.
It flooded the tunnel, “trapping an adult male construction worker underwater for several minutes,” the sheriff’s office said.
Co-workers removed the unconscious victim, started CPR and called for help from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
The victim was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital South Trauma Center in critical condition.
It was not immediately clear what caused the water main to rupture.
