Statewide emergency alert testing on Thursday

The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) is testing the Emergency Alert System on Thursday.

The state coordinates the emergency preparedness test with every city. It is a mandatory drill to evaluate preparations for emergency tools.

Residents may receive text messages across multiple platforms or hear sirens. All alerts will indicate if they are part of a test or a real emergency, such as severe weather, road closures, missing persons or evacuations.

School districts, college and universities, river authorities, tribal nations, public safety agencies, city governments, and regional partners will all be participating.
