Teen has life-threatening injuries after moped crash in New Canaan: police

A 16-year-old girl has life-threatening injuries after she was thrown from a moped during a crash on Route 15 in New Canaan on Monday, according to state police.

They said they received 911 calls reporting a crash on Route 15 South at the exit 13 off-ramp around 1:25 p.m. Monday.

Based on the preliminary investigation, police believe that the moped driver lost control while merging into the de-acceleration lane for the exit 13 off-ramp and the passenger, a 16-year-old young woman from New Haven, who was on the back of the moped was thrown off.

She was transported to Norwalk Hospital, then brought to Yale New Haven Hospital for a higher level of care, state police said.

Her family has been notified.

Route 15 South was closed for around three-and-a-half hours as police investigated.

The crash is under investigation.
