San Francisco’s mayor and a state lawmaker are teaming up to better crack down on sideshows in the city.
Mayor Daniel Lurie and Assemblymember Catherine Stefani gathered Friday to talk about new legislation that would provide law enforcement with more tools to crack down on sideshows statewide. It would also add motorcycles to the vehicles eligible for sideshow penalties, allow prosecutors to charge someone with a felony for any serious injury related to a sideshow and boost impound penalties for repeat offenders.
“This bill starts with a simple idea: Our laws should reflect what’s happening on our streets, and we should be able to hold people accountable for that behavior,” Stefani said. “This proposal recognizes that if a vehicle is used to terrorize a neighborhood, it can’t be treated as a minor violation.”
