A Gilroy woman was sentenced to one year behind bars for committing elder fraud by embezzling more than $100,000 from a century-old family-owned winery, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office on Thursday.
The DA’s said 62-year-old Stacey Greenlee worked as an administrative assistant for Guglielmo Winery’s owner from October 2022 to March 2024. According to authorities, Greenlee had access to the business’s bank accounts and credit card information.
Officials report Greenlee fraudulently opened credit cards in her name and went to a Sonoma County casino multiple times, spending more than $60,000.
The DA’s office said the investigation by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office showed she hid the scheme from her employer by concealing the bank statements, despite several requests for them from the winery’s accountant, and changing the email address associated with the bank account.
Greenlee pleaded no contest on Sept. 8 to two felony violations of elder fraud, according to the DA.
