DONE DEAL: Kit Graham moving to Ipswich Town on loan

This has been a season of change for Tottenham Hotspur. New head coach Martin Ho has come in and not only stabilized the team after a dismal performance in the WSL this season, he’s given a lift to the entire club. In the process he’s made major moves to refresh the playing squad, bringing in five new players this January in addition to summer acquisitions.

But the flip side of this is that as new players come in, we end up losing some that we’ve come to love. So it’s sad then to announce that Spurs midfielder Kit Graham is leaving the club for Ipswich Town on loan to the end of the season. The deal apparently includes an option to make the move permanent this summer.

It’s not entirely unsurprising. Kit has been a major contributor to Spurs over the years, but she’s 30 now, had two major knee injuries in her Tottenham career, and is clearly not favored by Ho. A loan makes sense — Kit undoubtedly still has gas in the tank, but Spurs are moving on without her. She’ll be missed for her clubhouse presence, but it’s hard not to argue that this is the right decision for her, and for Spurs.

The downside is that Kit’s heading down a division to WSL 2, and to an Ipswich side that’s bottom of the table and under real threat of relegation. The Tractor Girls are winless in their last eight league matches and have just five points — so in that sense a player like Kit who needs minutes and has tons of WSL experience might be just what they need to kick-start their campaign.

We’ve already lost Ashleigh Neville, and now Kit Graham is also on her way out. The only thing that doesn’t change is the need for change, but I’ll still miss her. Good luck, Kit.
