Hey, remember the glut of midfielders that Tottenham Hotspur no longer has? It looks like things might have gotten worse. Swedish outlet SVT Sport is reporting that Lucas Bergvall, who was subbed out after picking up a lower leg injury in a clash with Emre Can in Spurs’ 2-0 Champions League win over Dortmund yesterday, could miss 2-3 months due to injury.
SVT frames the reporting in terms of him missing Sweden’s World Cup playoff semifinal against Ukraine, which takes place on March 26. Now, I’m not especially familiar with SVT and have not yet found any corroboration for this reporting, but one would think a Swedish publication would presumably be close to the Sweden national team setup, and that setup would obviously be privy to information about a young Swedish international player and any injuries he might sustain.
If this is the case, it’s just more bad news for Spurs. Tottenham are already without Dejan Kulusevski, Joao Palhinha, Rodrigo Bentancur, and James Maddison. Add in Lucas and by my count that leaves newb oy Conor Gallagher, Archie Gray, Pape Sarr, and Xavi Simons as natural (stretching that term a bit) midfielders available to Thomas Frank. Not great, Bob!
We’ll wait for some confirmation from an English source or one closer to Spurs, but if this is accurate, BIG YIKES.
