Firefighters battled fires in two side-by-side homes in New Haven on Wednesday afternoon.
It happened just before 3 p.m. on Pierpoint Street.
Arriving firefighters found fire coming from both homes, according to Fire Chief John Alston.
Conditions were difficult due to the cold. A number of hydrants in the area were frozen, Alston said. Firefighters had to find working hydrants on other streets and stretch hoses. he said. They also drew water from a tanker.
While on the second floor, firefighters were hampered by clutter and stacked boxes, Alston said.
They have not yet determined in which home the fire started.
There were no injuries, but several people were displaced due to the amount of damage to the houses.
