Three people died following a wrong-way crash in Fairfield early Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP said they received reports of a four-vehicle crash westbound I-80, east of Cordelia Weigh Station at around 2 a.m. At the scene, authorities reported it was determined there were two separate crashes.
Officials said the first crash involved a white Dodge Charger, occupied by two men, and a black Land Rover Discovery, occupied by a woman. CHP adds one of the vehicles was traveling wrong-way, and although officers have not been able to identify which one was it, witnesses say the wrong-way vehicle was a “light-colored sedan.”
All three occupants died as a result of the crash, according to CHP.
Authorities said the second crash involved a black Tesla Model Y occupied by a man and a red Toyota Tacoma, occupied by another man. The driver of the Tesla was not hurt, and the driver of the Toyota was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.
CHP said the identities of the deceased parties are being withheld until they notify the next of kin.
