Look up, South Florida: See the Cold Moon, the last supermoon of 2025, tonight

The last supermoon of the year will shine Thursday night, and all you have to do is look up. The moon’s orbit around the Earth isn’t a perfect circle, so it gets nearer and farther as it swings around. When a full moon is closer to Earth in its orbit, a so-called supermoon happens. It makes the moon look up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter than the faintest moon of the year, according to NASA. Supermoons happen a few times a year in clusters, taking advantage of the sweet spot in the moon’s elliptical orbit, and Thursday night’s event is the last of three in a row in 2025. It’s also called the Cold Moon. The best time to see it is 6:14 p.m. Thursday. The moon over Homestead on the morning of Dec. 4, 2025. The supermoon can be glimpsed in clear night skies without any special equipment. But it can be tough to discern the subtle change with the naked eye. Whether a supermoon or not, the moon also appears bigger when it’s close to the horizon because of what’s called the moon illusion. It’s a strange visual trick that experts can’t yet explain. “When you have a supermoon, that effect is just slightly more striking,” said astronomer William Alston with the University of Hertfordshire. Tides could be slightly higher during a supermoon because the moon is closer to Earth, but again, the difference isn’t very noticeable.

Inter Miami vs. Vancouver Whitecaps MLS Cup Final: Where to watch, time, more

It all comes down to this. The 2025 MLS Cup Final will feature two teams seeking historic firsts while being led by some of the sport’s best to ever do it. On one side is Lionel Messi and Inter Miami. It wasn’t the best regular season for the team coming off a 2024 Supporters’ Shield win, but they would happily trade their current positioning compared to last year’s shocking first-round upset. Led by Messi, Miami also boasts Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, Rodrigo De Paul and the rising Tadeo Allende, who scored a hat-trick in last week’s 5-1 Eastern Conference Final dispatching of NYCFC. Alba and Busquets are also playing their last professional games as they are hanging up the cleats after the outcome. Then on the other side is the Vancouver Whitecaps, who started off as the league’s biggest surprise and kept it consistent. The Whitecaps upset No. 1 San Diego 3-1 on the road in the Western Conference Final thanks to a Brian White brace. Behind him in the No. 10 role is Thomas Muller, the German great who arrived midseason after leaving Bayern Munich and will need to put in a decisive shift. Vancouver also has winger Emmanuel Sabbi and midfielder Sebastian Berhalter to rely upon, as well as Japanese goalie Yohei Takaoka. So, which team will make history in the league’s finale? Man arrested after stolen cars bound for U.A.E. found in shipping containers at PortMiami

A South Florida business owner is facing charges after multiple stolen cars and engines were discovered in shipping containers at PortMiami that were bound for the United Arab Emirates, authorities said. Roohullah Abdul-Rauof, 47, was arrested Tuesday on eight counts of dealing in stolen property, eight counts of grand theft of a vehicle, four counts of grand theft, four counts of fraudulently obtaining a vehicle title or registration, 274 counts of transferring a vehicle title with no purchaser name, 20 counts of selling or transporting a vehicle without a title or with a false title, and one count of owning, operating or aiding and abetting a chop shop, records showed. Roohullah Abdul-Rauof According to an arrest report, on September 22, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the port found a 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, a 2016 Hyundai Sonata and a 2017 Hyundai Sonata that had all been stolen in Miami-Dade in a shipping container that was being sent to the United Arab Emirates. The shipping container was seized and determined to belong to Abdul-Rauof and his company, Shine Motors, in Opa-locka, the report said. Officers also found four unmanifested engines that were linked to vehicles stolen in Miami-Dade and Plantation, the report said. On Oct. 7, CBP officers found a 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe that had been reported stolen by the Broward Sheriff’s Office in a shipping container that was heading to the United Arab Emirates. The shipping container was also seized from Abdul-Rauof and his business, the report said. On Oct. 15, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office investigators went to Shine Motors for an inspection and found several engines from vehicles that had been reported stolen in Miami-Dade and Broward, along with doors from vehicles that had been reported stolen, the report said. According to the report, the total estimated value of the recovered property was over $214,000. Abdul-Rauof also had 274 State of Florida certificates of title that weren’t properly transferred to the name of the business, the report said. Abdul-Rauof was booked into jail. He appeared in bond court Wednesday where his attorney, Zeljka Bozanic, asked the judge for a reasonable bond, arguing that Abdul-Rauof ships the vehicles for customers but doesn’t own them, and has lived in the United States since 2016 and hasn’t previously been arrested. Prosecutors argued Abdul-Rauof, who lives in Doral but is a citizen of Afghanistan, was a flight risk. The judge set his bond at $145,500 and ordered him to surrender his passport.

Second man arrested in deadly double shooting outside Pembroke Pines sports bar

A second arrest has been made in a deadly shooting outside a sports bar in Pembroke Pines. It’s been two months since the shooting in the parking lot of Rickey’s Sports Bar and Grill on Pines Boulevard, west of University Drive, on Oct. 19. When officers arrived at the parking lot, they found two men who were suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. They were taken to a nearby hospital, where one of the men died. Detectives spent the night combing the parking lot for evidence, snapping photos, shining flashlights, and circling a red Dodge that had its back window blown out. Police arrested 27-year-old Clayton Hicks the day after the shooting. On Tuesday, authorities announced that they had also arrested 21-year-old Richaun McKnight for the crime. Both are charged with second-degree murder with a firearm. Hicks is also charged with attempted murder. Clayton Hicks and Richaun McKnight NBC6 spoke to witness who heard the gunshots. “All you heard was shots going off and it was a number of shots going off,” said a woman. “It was 20 or more shots. It was a lot.” Police haven’t released a possible motive in the shooting.
