Speaking to the media after the game versus VfL Osnabrück, Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany provided an update on a player that fans have been clamoring for since last season. Tom Bischof started an official competitive game for the first time this season, and importantly, he did it in his preferred position next to Joshua Kimmich in midfield.

According to Kompany, this was a deliberate step taken with his development in mind.

“Tom is an important player for the future of the club,” the coach explained (via @iMiaSanMia). “He will get his minutes and will play a big and important role for us.

“We deliberately decided to make space in the squad for his development,” he added, referring to the recent departures of Leon Goretzka and João Palhinha. “We’re very happy with our midfield.”

Bischof repaid his coach’s faith with a goal in the 24th minute, giving FC Bayern the lead. Fans will be looking forward to more standout performances from the young midfielder as the season progresses.
