On Sunday, German national team boss Jürgen Klopp visited Bayern Munich’s training ground to talk to head coach Vincent Kompany and observe some of the players.

If you wanted to know the inside scoop on what was discussed, do not expect Kompany to reveal the details of the conversation. The boss is essentially Fort Knox when it comes to disclosing that kind of information.

“I’ve known Jürgen for a long time. I won’t reveal everything we talked about – 50 percent was about the time we played against each other and 50 percent was about the future. It’s interesting to have a chat with a coach who’s no longer involved in the day-to-day training work but who has a wealth of experience. I’ve seen what he’s done and the successes he’s had. It’s interesting to hear how he went about it and achieved it. In my experience, the relationship between the club and the national team isn’t a difficult one. We have a common goal. Germany must qualify; that’s clear. You win tournaments in the summer – so the players need to be fit and available. So that Germany can achieve something special and perhaps lose to Belgium in the final,” Kompany said with a laugh (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

The early investment from Klopp into establishing or even strengthening these kinds of relationships should bode well for the future of the German national team. Now, the squad just needs to start winning games.
