Comment on Reports: Steelers Haven’t Made Offer To Joey Porter Jr., ‘Pretty Clear’ He Wants To Be Highest-Paid CB by TK
Absolutely no team will make him the highest-paid CB in the NFL, nor should they. He's very good. Probably better than Ike and thus the best CB we've had since Woodson. But he's probably not even a top 5 CB in the NFL right now and definitely not ahead of Gonzalez, Surtain, Stingley and Witherspoon. I tell you a trade I would take right now: Steelers trade: Joey Porter, Jr Spencer Anderson Lions (most CB needy team in the NFL and in win-now mode) trade: Tate Ratledge 2027 first-round pick But I doubt the Lions would give up that much and the Lions could not afford to make him the highest-paid CB in the NFL with their other long-term commitments. Such a demand will lower his trade value, making it more likely that we let him play it out this year and then franchise him next year, allowing him to then be traded, sign a long-term extensions with the Steelers or play under the franchise tag in 2027. But if he publicly and/or privately demands a trade, I sure hope the Tomlin idiocy of "volunteers, not hostages" is scraped with his departure. You don't trade a star, young CB without a tremendous return; and Omar lost all credence with the GP trade, which may have been the most lopsided, negative trade in Steeler history. Plus, we have to get something back that helps us win right now and not just a pick or two for next year. Can't have this old of a team and then trade away your No. 1 CB for entirely future assets.
