A law enforcement officer in suburban Bloomingdale allegedly used the village’s Flock camera system for an unauthorized purpose, leading to an investigation and the officer being placed on administrative leave, officials said.
The village said in a Facebook post that it conducted an internal audit of the Bloomingdale Police Department’s use of the camera system in response to recent concerns about how the technology was being used.
“The Village took this action to ensure that these systems are being used appropriately, consistent with Village policies, department procedures, and applicable laws,” a Facebook post read, in part.
The officer accused of unauthorized use was placed on administrative leave while the village conducts an internal investigation. Details on how the system was allegedly misused have not been made public.
Village officials said additional information cannot be released as the matter remains under review by the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The village said it believes the circumstances represent an isolated incident and will conduct a comprehensive review of the police department’s policies, procedures, training and implement any necessary corrective measures.
