The stars of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” shared heartfelt praise for one another while speaking with Access Hollywood at the film’s London premiere, with Zendaya offering a touching perspective on what makes Holland a worthy Spider-Man.
Amid the excitement surrounding the film’s release, Holland reflected on how Zendaya helps him stay calm through it all while proudly watching her pose for photographers at the event.
“Zendaya just always brings me an unbelievable sense of calm even in the midst of all of this craziness,” Holland told Access Hollywood.
Zendaya returned the compliment while reflecting on Holland’s impact on the young fans who know him best as Spider-Man.
“Little kids don’t know that he’s not Spider-Man, and I think he wears that with pride and it’s nice to know that the person wearing the suit is a good person and cares,” she told Access Hollywood.
It’s a sentiment that feels especially fitting for Spider-Man, a character long defined by the idea that with great power comes great responsibility.
Zendaya’s praise comes shortly after Holland put those qualities on display during an appearance on Celebrity Substitute.
The actor surprised students at New York City’s P.S. 37, teaching them how movie stunts are performed before helping them create their own superhero short film, Superkids. Holland directed and appeared alongside the students as they learned about teamwork, creativity and the craft behind movie stunts.
The sweet exchange arrives as both stars are riding a major box office wave. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” debuted to a massive $927 million globally, while Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” which also stars Holland and Zendaya, earned another $51 million in its third weekend, helping fuel a record-breaking box office frame.
Holland and Zendaya’s history stretches back nearly a decade to the set of 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” Before they publicly confirmed their romance, they also famously competed against one another on Lip Sync Battle in 2017. Zendaya performed Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic,” while Holland delivered the viral rain-soaked mashup of Gene Kelly’s “Singin’ in the Rain” and Rihanna’s “Umbrella.”
After years of speculation surrounding their relationship, Holland and Zendaya were photographed kissing in Los Angeles in 2021, confirming what fans had long suspected. The pair have remained notably private about their romance ever since, though both recently appeared to confirm they have tied the knot.
Holland told Esquire that his family was present at the couple’s secret wedding, while Zendaya jokingly told a fan who proposed to her on a “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” red carpet, “You’re too late!”
