Young boy critical after reported accidental shooting in Pompano Beach, BSO says

A young child was hospitalized in critical condition after what may have been an accidental shooting in Pompano Beach, authorities said.

Broward Sheriff’s Office officials said they received a report about an accidental shooting at around 10:12 p.m. Wednesday near the 4000 block of Southwest 15th Street.

Deputies and fire rescue personnel responded, and while on their way, were told that the victim’s parents had taken them to a nearby fire station.

Fire rescue treated the victim and transported them to a hospital for treatment.

BSO officials said the victim is a young male child and that he was in critical condition.

The shooting happened at an apartment complex where neighbors witnessed the aftermath.

“I just saw the family running, and it was like a really loud scream, it was like a something happened scream,” Tiffany Monegato said. “It’s sad, I don’t know what to say, it’s sad, I feel like crying thinking about it.”

Detectives with BSO’s Crime Scene and Violent Crimes Units are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, authorities said.
