Comment on ‘He Never Jumped Off The Page’: Ben Roethlisberger Reacts To Steelers Drafting Drew Allar by SteelersFan
Ben was critical of the Mason Rudolph pick. Mason didn’t work out (Despite all the help Ben gave him), so Ben was right… I disagree. A team will never get a great QB if they don’t pick a QB (with rare exceptions). Everyone laments the Steelers not addressing their QB succession needs until after Ben retired. But they did take a shot, with Mason Rudolph. Didn’t work out, very few of them do, but they took a shot. The Steelers took a shot this year in the third round. Some people are optimistic about this. The pessimists seem to fall into two camps: The Steelers took him to early! He would be there in the fourth round! I say, you don’t know that. Who among you saw that Ty Simpson thing coming? No one can say for sure. The Steelers took their shot. Live with it. The other pessimists throw out a litany of details that are wrong with his game. I don’t know if they are right because I don’t pretend to be able to pick QBs. I imagine that MM has a better handle on it than most though. He took and educated shot. It probably won’t work out, again, most don’t, but you can’t win if you don’t play the game. So Ben, that guy known for identifying QBs, who did he beat the drum to be drafted? Was he screaming for Will Howard last year? Gosh, I don’t recall that. Ben is one of my all time favorite Steelers, but I still call him a meathead since the motorcycle accident. Middle age, don’t have to work, have too much money…start a podcast and be a meathead. The Steelers have taken two shots the last two years. They have two young QBs and thus two shots at winning the QB lottery, which has about the same odds as the regular lottery. But you don’t win the lottery if you don’t buy tickets. Keep your fingers crossed and dare to have a lottery dream: Allar drops back and lets one rip sixty yards to Bernard for the TD! The crowd goes wild!
