This situation is very similar what happened at UK with John Calipari. He won the natty in 2012 then could not get close for the next 12 years even though most of those years were Tournament years. UK fans complained this was not acceptable for a school with such a high standard of winning. Finally, when he lost to No. 14 seed Oakland in the first round in March 2024 nearly all fans were screaming for him to be fired. He resigned and took a job with Arkansas. Then UK hired their new coach who played on the 1996 Championship Team. Since then, Coach Cal has turned the Arkansas program around and UK has slipped further toward mediocrity. So sometimes you get what you ask for and things get worse before they get better.
