BYU Signs Star Cal Linebacker Transfer Cade Uluave

BYU signed one of the best defensive players in transfer portal as Cal linebacker Cade Uluave has committed to BYU. Cade is rated a 4-Star transfer by 247 Sports and the top rated linebacker in the portal.

The South Jordan, Utah product has been a standout for Cal the last three seasons. Cade was a First-Team All ACC Selection this past season, totaling 97 tackles and 3 sacks. In three seasons, he has 235 tackles, 6 sacks, 3 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles. Cade was named Pac-12 Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2023.

Michigan had been one of the favorites to land the coveted linebacker, but BYU was able to land the in-state product. Uluave will be one of the top defensive players in the Big 12 and a backbone of BYU’s defense, forming arguably the best linebacking trio in the Big 12 along with Siale Esera and Isaiah Glasker. BYU needed to replace the departed Jack Kelly, and Uluave has the production and resume to do that.

BYU has retained all of its eligible top players, and Cade will give BYU additional star power to be one of the top defenses in the country. Cade doesn’t have the pass-rushing pedigree that Kelly has, but he is fast at 6-foot-1 and is a tackling machine. The Senior Bowl this past season had high praise for Uluave and his speed.

You can watch highlights of Cade below. He’ll be a senior this upcoming season.
