Comment on To Win The Division, Steelers Must Achieve Something That Hasn’t Happened Since Their Bye Week by cassidy977
In reply to JayBell#3. 1: nothing you or i think will affect anything. so saying something is "unacceptable" is utterly meaningless. you don't get to fire mike tomlin. you only get to grouse about it. seems like a waste of energy. 2: i'm a lot more interested in understanding why things work the way they do. i've seen this team win titles with mike tomlin, i've seen them come out of the gate on fire with mike tomlin, i've seen them come out shaky and then dramatically improve over the course of a season with mike tomlin, seen then play like a consistent power on offense and on defense with mike tomlin, etc. he's guided this team through everything except a a losing season. whatever any steelers fan wants the team to be, there's proof that they can be that with mike tomlin. so when i hear anyone say "it's mike tomlin's fault that the team isn't improving," all i hear is "i don't remember anything about the last 19 seasons." since i know it's not tomlin, i'm a lot more interested in what's different today than in past years. that's what that whole last comment was explaining: they turned over the vast majority of the offense this season. in fact, over the last three years, they've started six different QBs for at least four games. if you're expecting consistent play when that's the roster, WHY? their best years as an offense (2014-18), ben rarely missed games, the OL was remarkably consistent and healthy, AB rarely missed time... that's going to lead to a more consistent O. (plus ben was in his prime.) none of that is true today. so the question is, (a) are they showing improvement? (b) where are they not good enough? (c) is that a scheme thing or a manpower thing or just simply a communication or chemistry thing? those questions are way more interesting to me. and they create something to watch for (re: realistic improvement) instead of just expecting the team to either rock or suck. i don't know why so many fans prefer to just say "fire tomlin." that seems so inherently frustrating and unsatisfying. what's good about that perspective? i have no idea.
