Woman arrested 5 years after body of newborn baby was found in suburban woods

A woman is facing charges five years after police found the body of her newborn baby in a wooded area of a suburb of Chicago.

Natalie E. Schram, formerly Natalie E. Borg, was arrested on Dec. 3 in Bellingham, Washington after she was identified as the mother of the deceased infant found in May 2020 in a wooded area in the 1800 block of Robinwood Lane in Riverwoods.

Schram is facing charges of abuse of corpse, failure to report the death or disappearance of a child under 13 and two counts of concealment of death — all Class 4 Felonies.

Schram, a previous resident of Riverwoods, pled not guilty at her arraignment hearing Thursday. She was released on a $250,000 bond from Watcom County Jail in Washington on Dec. 4 after agreed to waive extradition proceedings and turn herself in at the Lake County courthouse.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
