The Tesla Cybertruck is getting the ax.
On Friday morning, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on X that the silver-clad, angular EV truck will wind down production until the "middle of next year." The EV maker delivered an estimated 76,000 units in all over the past three years, according to Cox Automotive data — far below its original lofty sales expectations.
It marks the end of the line for perhaps the strangest-looking car on American roads today.
"The design generated tremendous attention," Stephanie Valdez Streaty, a director of industry insights at Cox Automotive, told Business Insider, but the weird looks "also narrowed its appeal."
Still, the Cybertruck occupied a large role in American culture and politics, even if it didn't sell a lot of units.
