A 51-year-old man is dead after a stabbing on Friday night in Meriden.
At around 6:50 p.m. the Meriden police department responded to the Green Smoke Shop on Pratt Street for an injured person.
According to police, the victim ran to the smoke shop for assistance after the stabbing occurred in a different area nearby.
After investigation, police believe the stabbing occurred on Pratt Street on or near the Meriden Green.
Staff and bystanders at the Green Smoke Shop provided aid to the victim until he was transported to the hospital.
The victim later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
He has been identified as Marcus Mitchell.
There is no threat to the public, according to police.
A suspect has been taken into custody on unrelated charges.
The Meriden police department is continuing to investigate the homicide.
