An Eatontown woman was arrested Friday after being accused of falsely claiming her boyfriend burned her and tried to kill her, according to Ocean County prosecutors.
Chelsea Villano, 33, was charged with two counts of falsely incriminating another in connection with an Oct. 15 incident in Plumsted Township.
On Oct 15, at approximately 1:36 p.m., Plumsted Township police and emergency medical first responders were called to a wooded area near Hawking Road and Success Road for a report of a woman with burn injuries. When first responders arrived, they found the woman, later identified as Villano, in distress and suffering from burns.
Villano was taken to Temple University Burn Center in Philadelphia, where she was treated for her injuries.
Prosecutors said Villano initially claimed that her boyfriend tried to burn her and kill her while the couple and another person were in the wooded area.
The next day, Villano’s boyfriend was arrested and charged with attempted murder and aggravated arson in connection with the incident. However, three days later, the man was released from Ocean County Jail.
As the investigation progressed, prosecutors determined that Villano had provided authorities with false information about how she was injured and who caused her injuries.
On Oct. 23, Villano was charged in connection with the incident and transported to Ocean County Jail.
On Saturday, Ocean County prosecutors said the charges against Villano’s boyfriend had been dismissed.
