Gerald Green, 31, was taken to the hospital in critical condition fire broke out at his home at 1399 Central St., according to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.
The fire was reported by a single 911 hang-up call, the DA’s office said. First responders who arrived around 5:45 a.m. saw smoke coming from the building and found Green inside, according to Stoughton Fire Chief Michael Carroll.
Firefighters carried Green, who was burned and unresponsive, from the home. He later died of his injuries at the hospital, the DA said in an update on Thursday.
Part of the investigation, which involves the state fire marshal’s office, will focus on whether the fire was intentionally set, Carroll told reporters on Wednesday.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Gerald Green. We extend our deepest sympathies for their loss,” District Attorney Michael Morrissey said in a media statement.
