NoRA Cupcake Company in Middletown closes after nearly 15 years in business

A popular Middletown bakery has announced it is closing its doors for good.

NoRA Cupcake Company posted a sentimental message on Facebook on Wednesday night, making the announcement.

“It is extremely difficult to find all the right words to express this sentiment, but after an incredibly fun and exciting journey, I have made the decision to close our pink & black doors,” the business, which has been open for nearly 15 years, wrote.

The bakery will be open through Halloween on Oct. 31.

“Please stop in and say goodbye,” NoRA wrote. “We would love to see you, hear a sweet memory, or just tell us a funny story.”

Carrie Carella, the business’s owner, thanked friends, colleagues, and NoRA fans in her message.

“Dear NoRA CaKE Addicts,

It is extremely difficult to find all the right words to express this sentiment, but after an incredibly fun and exciting journey, I have made the decision to close our pink & black doors.

From the very beginning, my goal was to bring a little sweetness (most of the time with a bit of sass) to your days, your celebrations, your heartbreaks, and your milestones. It was also my goal to create something from the ground up, collaborating with so many friends and family members, leaning on mentors from my previous jobs for guidance and support, and engraining the brand into the community surrounding our little storefront on Main Street, Middletown, CT.

I have had the privilege and opportunity to work with so many friends, colleagues, inspiring creatives, and like-minded entrepreneurs during my NoRA tenure. I can’t express how much of those experiences were the most rewarding and exciting for me.

I am immensely grateful to all the hard-working CaKE Dealers that have dedicated their time, creativity, amazing skillsets, and loyalty to the growth and vision of NoRA throughout the last (nearly) 15 years. Thank you for trusting me to be your boss.

And last but not least, THANK YOU to all of the NoRA fans for welcoming us, enjoying us, incorporating us into your histories, challenging us, and supporting us so we could come to work and play with sugar.

It has been a journey and I wouldn’t change any of it. I have learned from failures, I have enjoyed the success, I have loved the creative expression NoRA has allowed me to exercise…and I’m ready for my next chapter.

All my best with sugar & spice,

Carrie“
