Game notes

  • After a long and fruitful stretch on the road, the Bruins return home to host the Nashville Predators on Hockey Fights Cancer Night at TD Garden.
  • The Predators have lost three of their last four games, but they did win last time out—a 5-2 win over St. Louis in Nashville on Saturday night.
  • Nashville is not ascribing to the “rotate your goalies” trend this season, with Juuse Saros starting seven of Nashville’s eight games. That’s not unusual for Saros, who has started 58+ games in each of the last five seasons.
  • While their overall offense has been middle-of-the-road so far on the season, Nashville’s power play has been a weapon for them: they have the 3rd-best man advantage in the league (and a top-ten penalty kill as well).
  • Ryan O’Reilly, a prime trade candidate due to his UFA status once this season comes to an end, is off to a great start for Nashville with 4G-3A-7PTs in eight games. He should net the Predators a tidy return when (and it seems like more of a “when” than an “if”) he joins a contender at some point this season.
  • Steven Stamkos, who still seems like he shouldn’t be on the Predators, shows no signs of slowing down. After a 42-goal season last year, Stamkos is scoring at that pace again to open this season. With guys like Stamkos, O’Reilly, and Roman Josi on their first unit, it’s no surprise that Nashville has a strong power play.
  • Former Bruin Jack Ahcan latched on with the Predators over the summer, singing a two-year, two-way deal. He’s appeared in three games for the Predators thus far on the season.
  • The Bruins officially announced a three-year, $11.85 million contract extension for Marat Khusnutdinov yesterday, continuing the “take care of business early” approach they used with fellow youth Fraser Minten.

See ya tonight!
