Friday temperatures will hit the mid-80s and a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 8 p.m. in the D.C. area.
The evening will bring the last of this week’s weather-coaster ups and downs: Rain returns with a vengeance, and thunderstorms could form.
Winds could reach speeds up to 50 mph, so take the time to secure any Halloween decorations you don’t want to blow away.

The weather drama will play out before the weekend actually starts, and you can look forward to beautiful autumnal conditions on Saturday.
A strong push of chilly Canadian air settles over the D.C. area to start the weekend. Temperatures will be nearly 15 degrees below average, with a brisk northwest breeze.
After any early clouds Saturday morning, sunshine takes over for the weekend. Expect excellent visibility and very dry air.
Temperatures drop into the upper 30s and lower 40s Saturday and Sunday nights. Some of the colder suburbs could flirt with the mid-30s.
Temperatures recover slowly Monday and Tuesday, with plenty of sunshine. Highs return to the 60s by Tuesday, while dry weather continues.
