For more than two decades, the Connecticut Sun helped shape women’s professional basketball in New England.
Now, as the WNBA franchise prepares for its move to Houston, NBC Connecticut looks back at the team’s history, its devoted fans and the legacy it leaves behind.
In this NBC Connecticut special presentation, “Connecticut Sun: The Rise of a Legacy,” hear from players, team executives, journalists, longtime supporters and the Mohegan Tribe about how the franchise came to Connecticut in 2003 and was built into one of the league’s cornerstone organizations.
The documentary explores the team’s early success at Mohegan Sun Arena, the growth of women’s basketball, the negotiations surrounding the franchise’s sale and the efforts to keep the Sun in Connecticut and New England.
It also follows players and fans through an emotional final season, reflecting on the relationships, memories and community built around the team.
