Wallingford police identify driver involved in hit-and-run that seriously injured 11-year-old

Police have located the vehicle involved in a hit-and-run that seriously injured an 11-year-old girl who was riding her bike in Wallingford on Monday.

The vehicle was identified using surveillance footage from several local businesses after the crash, according to the Wallingford Police Department.

Officers were called to the intersection of Washington Street and Hosford Street around 4:20 p.m. on Monday for a report of a young girl riding a bike being struck by a vehicle. Once in the area, police said they found an unconscious 11-year-old girl with serious injuries.

Firefighters arrived on scene and transported the girl to the hospital for treatment.

After the collision, the vehicle fled the scene.

On Wednesday, officers were conducting motor vehicle enforcement in the area when they spotted the suspected vehicle traveling northbound on Washington Street.

Officers stopped the vehicle and found damage consistent with the hit-and-run, according to police.

The vehicle was seized and will be processed for evidence. Police said the driver has been identified and is cooperating with investigators.

Police said an arrest warrant is anticipated for the driver.

“I would like to personally thank the Wallingford business community for coming together to provide the Police Department with the information that assisted investigators in identifying the suspect vehicle,” Wallingford Police Chief John Ventura said. “The outpouring of support has been greatly appreciated.”

The investigation is active and ongoing.
