It is Wednesday, my dudes.
The Bruins got their road trip off to a winning start late, late, late on Tuesday night, beating the San Jose Sharks by a score of 6-3.
Your highlights:
Fraser Minten led the way for the Bruins with two goals, Morgan Geekie had two assists, and Charlie McAvoy also scored in his return.
The B’s also got goals from Matt Poitras, Pavel Zacha, and an empty-netter from Will Borgen.
Jeremy Swayman made 35 saves in the win.
You could forgiven for seeing the final score and assuming the Bruins won comfortably, but it was a one-goal game until the middle of the third period.
It certainly wasn’t an airtight effort all around from the Bruins, with Marco Sturm citing too many turnovers and the team being “a little bit sloppy.”
Still, two points is two points. Two points are two points? Either way.
Game notes
- It ultimately didn’t matter a ton, but the Bruins sure seemed to get robbed of a first period goal due to a goalie interference call. It’s not until you see the overhead view that you can even tell what happened, and while Marat Khusnutdinov does make contact with Yaroslav Askarov’s stick, it comes outside of the crease, seemingly without much intention, etc. Former official Dave Jackson shed some light on Twitter, but it still seemed like a very soft call.
- Sturm wasted no time throwing McAvoy back into the mix, with the defenseman skating 24:41 in his season debut.
- Special teams very much remain an issue for the Bruins, as their power play came up empty last night and they allowed two San Jose power play goals on four opportunities; it was kind of three power play goals, as San Jose’s first goal came just two seconds after their power play expired.
- Ivar Stenberg, the second pick in June’s draft, scored his first NHL goal for San Jose in the second period.
The B’s will now find themselves in a pretty enviable spot: two straight days without a game in California. NOT BAD.
They’ll be back at it on Friday night in Los Angeles.
What’s on tap for today?
