Welcome to a new week, folks — and it’s time to play the music.
I don’t think Mark Morrison was specifically thinking about Charlie McAvoy returning from suspension when he penned that song, but it also can’t be 100% ruled out.
The Bruins will get a boost on their blue line when they get back in action in San Jose on Tuesday night, as McAvoy will return from his six-game suspension.
All things considered, the Bruins did pretty well without their #1 defenseman.
But while McAvoy isn’t coming back to a desperate team, he’s certainly returning to a group that will appreciate his presence. If nothing else, McAvoy should help boost the Bruins struggling power play.
Obviously with McAvoy’s return, someone is going to need to drop out on the blue line, so that’s a decision Marco Sturm and team will reflect on over the next day or two.
Go west
Normally I’d share The King of Wishful Thinking prior to the Bruins heading to the West Coast, but you can never turn down a chance to post Mark Morrison.
Anyways, the Bruins will embark on a four-game road trip today, with the team heading out to San Jose (via airplane…I don’t want to upset anyone).
They’ll play in San Jose on Tuesday night, in Anaheim Friday night, and in Los Angeles Saturday night, before wrapping up the trip in Dallas on Tuesday.
While the California teams are more up-and-coming than true contenders, these trips are always good tests for the Bruins, particularly when you end it with a game against the Stars.
I feel like two wins out of the four would be a “good enough” result, though there’s no reason to not aim higher.
Struggles in Providence
The 2026-2027 season has gotten off to a tough start down on the farm, as the Providence Bruins have struggled mightily out of the gate.
The P-Bruins are 1-4-0 in their first five games, with all five of those games coming on home ice.
The season-opening slump has included back-to-back shutout losses last week.
They did get their first win on Saturday night, a 6-2 win over Charlotte, but they then followed that up with a 6-2 loss to Wilkes-Barre Scranton on Sunday night, so…not ideal.
Given the amount of roster turnover the P-B’s had over the summer, there was always going to be some tough sledding early on in the season, so first-year head coach Trent Whitfield certainly has his work cut out for him.
Hopefully you had yourself a good weekend and are getting in some extra sleep for Tuesday’s 11 PM start.
Also, Happy Thanksgiving to all of you fine folks north of the border — enjoy the day!
What else is on tap for today?
