Police investigate possible shooting overnight on Eisenhower Expressway

Outbound lanes on the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) in Oak Park were shut down for hours early Friday morning for a possible shooting investigation, with photos and video from the scene showing multiple police vehicles lining the roadway and officers canvassing the lanes.

Illinois State Police said they received a call about 10:48 p.m. for reports of an expressway shooting on I-290 westbound near Austin Avenue. Lanes were closed about 2:37 a.m. for an investigation, ISP said.

Video captured at the scene showed at least six police vehicles parked across the expressway, with tow trucks close behind. As many as nine troopers carrying flashlights could be seen walking across all lanes.

Lanes were reopened about 5:50 a.m., ISP said. No injuries were reported, and an investigation remains ongoing.

ISP asked anyone who may have witnessed the event or was in the area at the time of the incident to contact Illinois State Police Zone 1 at (847) 294-4400 or email at ISP.CrimeTips@Illinois.gov.

Reports of a shooting shut down the same area on the Eisenhower Expressway Thursday afternoon, with police blocking several lanes of I-290 near Harlem Avenue.
