Editor’s Note: Authorities later announced a CTA worker was fatally stabbed at the station. Our latest coverage of this incident can be found here.
Trains on the CTA Green Line were bypassing the Damen/Lake station in West Town just before the afternoon rush hour on Thursday because of police activity, the transit organization said.
Starting around 4 p.m., Green Line trains were not stopping at the Damen/Lake station, located at 200 N. Damen Ave., because of police activity.
CTA advised riders to “consider other service alternatives that may serve your trip, such as nearby bus routes, or using buses to other rail lines,” and suggested the no. 50 Damen bus and no. 20 Madison bus.
“Bus shuttles have been requested from California/Lake and Ashland/Lake in both directions to provide service through the affected area,” an alert on the CTA website said.
Aerial video from NBC Chicago Sky 5 showed police tape outside the station near the entrance on the southwest corner of Damen Avenue and Lake Street and several officers investigating in the area.
It was not immediately clear what prompted the police response.
No additional information was immediately available.
