4 things to know about the weather:
- Another winner day
- Nice and warm Thursday
- Tropical Storm Isaias forming in the Gulf
- Heavy rain Sunday, Monday
These next few days will, quite literally, be the calm before the storm. While we sit under high pressure, a new tropical storm is starting to develop in the southern Gulf of Mexico.
In the meantime, we’ll be sitting in sunshine Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Highs will be in the low 70s Wednesday, the upper 70s Thursday and the low 70s on Friday.
The next few overnights will not be as chilly as Wednesday morning, generally staying in the 50s.
Between now and Saturday evening would be a good time to ensure that your home and property are ready for this upcoming storm. Make sure your gutters and storm drains are cleaned out, and secure any loose items. When what’s left of Isaias gets here, it will be too windy (25-30 mph) and rainy for you to want to spend time outside.

How Tropical Storm Isaias could impact your weekend

Isaias is expected to become a hurricane by Thursday and make landfall somewhere between New Orleans and Pensacola late Friday night.
If you have travel plans to that area, it’s time to consider changing them. The exact track of the storm cannot be nailed down this far out, but it will have a large impact on most of the Deep South on Saturday. Memphis, Nashville, and Atlanta airports could all have significant delays and cancellations.
That slug of deep tropical moisture will quickly move northward and is expected to impact the D.C. area Sunday and Monday. Rain is likely to arrive here in the DMV as early as sunrise Sunday morning.
Heavy rain is most likely from Sunday evening into Monday morning. Rain totals of at least 1 inch look likely, with some areas possible getting as much as 2 to 3 inches. The rain will taper off late Monday afternoon, and nice, dry, October weather will return for the remainder of next week.
