The No. 1 Wisconsin Badgers are taking on the Boston Terriers in their home opener on Thursday evening, with the first game of the series starting at 7:00 p.m. on Big Ten Plus.
Wisconsin is coming off a series win over St. Lawrence last weekend to start off the season. They started things off with a 6-2 win before a 6-0 shutout in the second game of the series. Star Kelly Gorbatenko scored two goals in the opener, while Finley McCarthy, Cassie Hall, Rosalie Tremblay, and Charlotte Pieckenhagen each netted one.
It was a different start for the Badgers, though, as they fell behind 2-0 with five minutes left in the first period after a slow start. But Finley McCarthy got one in the net with just over three minutes to go in the first, and the Badgers got three second-period goals to take a 4-2 lead.
The Badgers netted two more early in the third to eventually win 6-2. However, goalie Ava McNaughton did suffer an injury and was pulled for sophomore Rhyah Stewart, who saved all 11 of her chances.
In the second game of the series, Wisconsin had a very similar outlook. They scored in the first period, with Maggie Scannell knocking in her first of two goals. Then came an onslaught in the second period with four goals, as Haley Box, Maggie Scannell, and Kelly Gorbatenko (2x) all found the net. Both of Gorbatenko’s goals came on the power play, and Cassie Hall knocked in Wisconsin’s sixth goal near the end of the third period for a 6-0 win.
Wisconsin was far more dominant in this one, out-shooting St. Lawrence 37-15 while winning 61.5 percent of the faceoffs.
Now, the Badgers take on Boston, and it’ll be a ceremonial night in Madison as they celebrate the 2026 National Championship banner.
The first game of the series is at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the second is at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
