With the start of Maryland women’s basketball’s 2026-27 season nearing, the preseason accolades are finalized. Oluchi Okananwa was one of 10 players featured on the All-Big Ten list released Thursday.
Okananwa, who poured in a team-high 17.8 points, is expected to remain the Terps’ top scoring option this season. The senior guard reached double-digit points in 27 games last year, including 13 performances over the 20-point mark.
An All-Big Ten first-team selection last season, Okananwa thrived in the paint. She shot 51.8% from the field and got to the free-throw line at a high clip, converting 74.3% of her 167 attempts.
But on one of head coach Brenda Frese’s deepest teams, Okananwa’s shot volume could decrease.
Maryland’s returning talent and offseason additions give it the pieces to contend nationally. The Terps will need to avoid a slew of season-ending injuries that derailed the team last year.
