This is a massive opportunity for Tottenham Hotspur Women. They return home to Brisbane Road to host Aston Villa, from whom they poached Kirsty Hanson this past summer. A win today at home and they can go as high as second in the league, ahead of London City Lionesses and just behind defending WSL champions Manchester City. It’s a huge moment for Spurs Women, who are hoping, along with London City, to gate-crash the top four this season and qualify for a European spot next season for the first time in club history.
But first they’ll have to get past a tricky Aston Villa squad. Spurs beat Villa home and away last season, including a 7-3 thriller at Villa. After crushing Crystal Palace in their last league match, no doubt they wouldn’t appreciate a similar scoreline today. But Villa can surprise as evidenced by their draw against Brighton last week. Spurs can’t be complacent today.
