Sean Strickland continues to have a bad time when it comes to the road.
On Tuesday, the UFC champion shared a video on Instagram showing off head and shoulder scrapes from a recent vehicular accident that he claims happened because while his friend Chris was driving. Strickland did not appear to be seriously injured, though by his own admission he was in rough shape following the incident.
“Guys, I’m in a real bad place,” Strickland said. “Aw, f*ck. I let my buddy drive, he rolled us going, like 60. We rolled, like, six times. That was from my head smacking the ground, going 60, did not have a helmet on. I’m an idiot.
“(Shows scrapes on shoulder) That was just from rolling and smacking the concrete and the dirt. F*ck, I’m in a real bad place right now. I think I’m just going to lay here and take a nap for a little bit. Just a little shuteye. A little shuteye will do right. Just sleep it off.”
Shortly after that post, Strickland provided an update.
“I think I’m OK. Chris went unconscious for a little bit, so he’s in the hospital, but I think he’s going to be alright. He just went asleep for a little bit, but honestly, the most f*cking fun I’ve had in a very, very long time. My wallet’s a little sore. Rainbet did say they’d cover it, so that was nice. That was the most fun thing I’ve done in a very long time. I hope Chris is OK, I’ve never seen anybody go unconscious before, that was interesting.”
Fortunately for Strickland, this scary incident is nothing compared to the motorcycle accident he had in December 2018 that put him out of action for almost two years. At the time, Strickland was still a welterweight, but he returned at 185 pounds and eventually worked his way to the top of the division, where he is currently in his second reign.
Strickland doesn’t appear to be playing it safe as he deals with shoulder injuries that have delayed his next title defense, as he recently shared another clip of himself falling off a motorcycle, though at least he was properly geared up for that incident.
Update (12:42 p.m. ET): An earlier version of this article incorrectly referred to the incident as a motorcycle accident. However, Strickland has since released footage of the accident and it appears he and his friend were riding in an ATV.
